Transit Visa

The Transit Visa (Subclass 771) allows travellers to transit through Australia for up to 72 hours on their way to another country or to join a ship as a crew member if they hold a valid Maritime Crew Visa. This visa cannot be extended or used for longer stays.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Must be travelling through Australia to another destination or joining a ship as a Maritime Crew Visa holder.
  • Hold a valid passport and meet health and character requirements.
  • Apply from outside Australia and remain outside until the visa decision is made.
  • Cannot include family members in the application; each traveller needs a separate application.
